Home Energy Investigators opened its doors in January 2006.
Owner Alex Moore has over 25 years experience in building
science, energy conservation, and weatherization. Since
1991, Alex has provided engineering support to the Department
of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program, which
gives grants to install energy-saving measures and reduce
the energy bills of low-income homes so occupants can more
easily afford food, medicine, and other necessities.
The Weatherization Assistance Program spawned the emerging
building science and home performance industries. Energy-efficiency
measures installed as part of whole-house weatherization
also improve comfort, safety, and building durability. It
finally dawned on Alex that fellow Northern Virginia homeowners
in all income brackets would be interested in reducing their
energy bills while improving comfort, ensuring safety, and
protecting their investment.
Alex holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University
of Michigan and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Virginia.
He is certified by the Building Performance Institute as
an Energy Analyst, Shell Specialist, and Heating Specialist.
Alex, his wife, and two daughters are life-long Vienna residents.
